Sources of Formaldehyde in Bountiful, Utah

چکیده
The U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s National Air Toxics Trends Stations Network has been measuring the concentration of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) including formaldehyde (HCHO) since 2003. Bountiful, Utah (USA) served as one urban monitoring sites network was established. Starting in 2013, mean HCHO measured exceeded non-cancer risk threshold and 1 million cancer threshold. In addition, concentrations were more than double those found at surrounding locations Utah. A Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) analysis using PMF-EPA v5 performed historical data (2004–2017) to better understand sources region. set included samples that collected every sixth day on a 24 h basis. Beginning February 2019 an eight-week sampling campaign initiated measure two-hour averaged measurements O3, NO, NO2, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) also collected. Corresponding back-trajectory wind calculations for selected time periods calculated aid understanding effects BTEX emission formation. results indicate principal are associated with biomass burning conversion biogenic emissions into HCHO. Back-trajectory low (≤3 ppbv) high (23.8–32.5 cases show clear dominance originating trajectories come from southwest pass over area oil refineries industrial north Salt Lake City area.

متن کاملSources of formaldehyde, other aldehydes and terpenes in a new manufactured house.
Formaldehyde, less volatile aldehydes, and terpene hydrocarbons are generally the predominant air contaminants in new manufactured and site-built houses. This study was conducted to identify the major sources of these compounds in a typically constructed, new manufactured house and to evaluate several source reduction practices. Specimens of materials used within the house were collected. These...
متن کاملPhysico-chemical characterization of lignins from different sources for use in phenol-formaldehyde resin synthesis.
During the last decades lignin has been investigated as a promising natural alternative to petrochemicals in phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin production, due to their structural similarity. Physico-chemical characterization of three types of lignin, namely kraft pine lignin (L1), soda-anthraquinone flax lignin (L2), and ethanol-water wild tamarind lignin (L3) has been evaluated to determine which...
